Defense Cuts are Worrisome
The United States historically has played a very needed role in the world. We have not seen the type of aggression and global conflict that we did in the early twentieth century since America emerged from WWII as a global power. Despite our mistakes, I believe the U.S. has been a positive force for global stability.
That could easily change. You have several rising powers on the world stage who are quietly and consistently building their armed forces beyond what is needed for self defense. They intend to project power.
At the same time, you see America weakened from its economic troubles and reducing its military power at the same time.
There will be consequences.
As Machiavelli so famously said, “It is better to be feared than loved.”
