God Prepares us For Business Battle

“The Children of Israel Crossing the Jordan” by Benjamin West, 1800..

Is God preparing you for business battle?

If you read any of my HWJDB posts you’re going to see a familiar theme in them: We have work to do and it’s a battle out there, good vs. evil, or in reality, God vs. Satan!

If you read my previous blot post, Equipping of the Saints for the Work of Service (about Eph 4:11-12, highly recommend you read that post before this one), you’ll find that studying the Bible, word by word, you find nuggets of gold in life lessons. I found that our church leaders, i.e. the pastor/teacher, clergy, and laity are not fulfilling their true and vital role in the church. Especially when it comes to having a marketplace ministry.

Testing in preparation for battle

Then I read Judges 3:1-31 and what God saw in Israel: Sins creating weakness!

Judges 3:1-4 Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to test Israel by them (that is, all who had not experienced any of the wars of Canaan; only in order that the generations of the sons of Israel might be taught war, those who had not experienced it formerly). These nations are: the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites who lived in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as Lebo-hamath. They were for testing Israel, to find out if they would obey the commandments of the LORD, which He had commanded their fathers through Moses.

Too often we hear others who are going through difficulties as if they have sinned, in some cases, they’re right. However, reading the above section of Scripture we find that the effect was what God was responding to, the cause had already happened: Failure to continue to teach and train others to follow God’s commandments and hold each accountable.

Vigilance in Bible and vigilance in battle

“Faith without works is dead” comes from the book of James. But faith always comes before work, if you fail in faith, you’ll fail in work, i.e. doing the right work that God expects from us.

Judges 2:10 All that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.

There was the cause: Failure in the battle of your faith. Which returns to my earlier comment and blog post, Equipping of the Saints for the Work of Service (about Eph 4:11-12). When you read Jewish content, you find a frequent phrase that starts them out in life: Study of Torah.

“Study Torah” is a specific mitzvah in Deuteronomy 6:7, ‘You shall teach them diligently to your children’ – which directs us to transmit Torah to the next generation.”

Studying the Bible should translate into doing a Jewish mitzvah, or in Christian lingo “doing a good deed,” i.e. “faith with works.” But in some cases it leads to YABS (Yet Another Bible Study), and lacks putting our learning to work, daily. Not having another Bible “Think Tank,” but having a Bible “Do Tank.”

It’s about being vigilant with your Bible and in your battle, i.e. faith + works/deeds.

In doing the works/deeds, our faith increases and our works strengthen us, not much different than exercising and eating right, it keeps our bodies healthy while studying the Bible and doing good works keeps us spiritually healthy (Note: Judges 3:17, 22 indicates King Eglon was VERY OBESE, are you/we mentally, spiritually, and physically fat, too?).

If we fail to do Bible and battle, faith and works, we’ll be tested by God, as Israel was in Judges 3.

Are you ready? Do you need to go to Spiritual Boot Camp to get you into shape for the spiritual warfare we’re involved in? Have you gotten fat, lazy, and unfit to perform your Godly duties you have been called to do? It’s better to have your discipline tested in training than tested in battle.

“The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat.” ― Richard Marcinko, US Navy SEAL, author of the Rogue Warrior series

Our issue: Having “Grit for God” and all that He stands for in the marketplace battlefield.

1 Cor 16:13-14 Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.
