YC Chen

“East meets West,” is a most fitting one-liner for YC Chen. Born in Taiwan, and relocated to the U.S. at age 13, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, and an MBA from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She chose to defy the stereotypical Asian image by pursuing a “front-of-the-room” career in training and development. Over time, YC refined skills by working as a trainer and corporate consultant in higher human performance and learning. She loves to take a situation, break it apart to the basic components, razor into problem spots, generate possible solutions, and then explain it with intriguing imagery and analogies for fuller understanding. She serves as the Director of Operations, Asia-Pacific region for Encephalon Accelerate Learning & Development (USA). Her recent project includes building private kindergartens and schools in Asia, as well as international business consulting. YC currently is based in Singapore and works extensively in China and SE Asian countries.

The Fat Pig Kill List

Doing business in Hong Kong is always enjoyable, partly because of Cantonese food. Recently, I sat across the dim sum table from Faye, a Hong-Kong immigration agent with an impeccable British accent. Faye, looking for client referrals, explained her business … Read More

Christians in Myanmar: Give Back Our Land

“This IS our family land.” L.N., an energetic pastor and a community activist, expressed his mind through his thick-accented English. With a wave of his hand, he directed our eyes to nearly 20+ acres of open land featuring mature trees, … Read More

Move Over Jack Ma, Hu Was on First

It was the American playwright, Eugene O’Neil, who wrote: “There is no present or future – only the past, happening over and over again – now.” Coincidentally, the biography of Hu Shiue Yan (胡雪/胡雪), a Chinese business tycoon, also conveyed … Read More
